چکیده

Previous work in computational mechanism design has largely focused on the problem of revelation of private information by selfinterested agents. In contrast, this work addresses the rational manipulation that can occur when mechanisms are implemented by the agents themselves. We are interested in distributed implementations, when agents may selfishly deviate from algorithms imposed by a mechanism designer and damage the performance of the overall system. We define two properties for non-manipulable mechanism implementations, communicationand algorithm compatibility and identify techniques that can be used to achieve these properties. A proof technique is introduced to show how a distributed mechanism implementation can be proven to be an ex post Nash equilibrium, inclusive of the private information revelation and mechanism actions within an agent’s strategy space. We focus in particular on the lowest cost interdomain routing problem proposed by Feigenbaum, Papadimitriou, Sami, and Shenker (FPSS) [5]. Our approach relies primarily on problem partitioning and redundancy and does not add significant new processing or communication overhead to the distributed FPSS algorithm.

Overcoming Rational Manipulation in Distributed Mechanism Implementations

Distributed systems are increasingly made up of nodes governed by disparate self-interested parties. These parties can be modeled as rational (in a game theoretic sense) utility-maximizing players that participate in a distributed algorithm. These rational nodes may choose to deviate from a given specification to increase their utility, but alternatively can be incented to correctly implement p...

Passive Non-Prehensile Manipulation of a Specific Object on Predictable Helix Path Based on Mechanical Intelligence

Object manipulation techniques in robotics can be categorized in two major groups including manipulation with and without grasp. The aim of this paper is to develop an object manipulation method where in addition to being grasp-less, the manipulation task is done in a passive approach. In this method, linear and angular positions of the object are changed and its manipulation path is controlled...

Implementing efficient multi-object auction institutions: An experimental study of the performance of boundedly rational agents

We study three alternative versions of the Vickrey (1961) auction when bidders have multi-unit demands: Vickrey’s original static sealed-bid auction and two dynamic implementations of the same auction: with and without dropout information reported during the auction (Ausubel, 1997). Although implemented by a weaker a weaker solution concept, behavior in the dynamic Vickrey auction with dropout ...

Implementations of Web-based Recommender Systems Using Hybrid Methods

Application of hybrid recommendation enables overcoming disadvantages of the basic recommendation methods: demographic, collaborative and content -based. In this paper the two consensus-based hybrid recommendation methods are presented. Then some examples of their implementations to different web-based systems are shown.

Quantitative phenotypic and pathway profiling guides rational drug combination strategies

Advances in target-based drug discovery strategies have enabled drug discovery groups in academia and industry to become very effective at generating molecules that are potent and selective against single targets. However, it has become apparent from disappointing results in recent clinical trials that a major challenge to the development of successful targeted therapies for treating complex mu...
